I am posting this as a reminder about spring art classes. There are still spaces left if you would like to enroll your child. The first class is Thursday, May 6. Here are the specifics about class:
Creation Station’s Community Artists
(K-5th Grade) School-age children will learn basic and advanced art techniques in a series of six one-hour art classes for grades K-5. We will paint, draw, and work with clay. Smocks and all art materials are provided during classes. We will also work on a group project throughout the six weeks that will be donated to a community organization. This program culminates in an awards ceremony where each artist will receive a gold medal and a Certificate of Achievement in Art. Parents, family, and friends are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony to support their young artist’s accomplishments.
CLASS FEE: $68/8 classes
CLASS LOCATION: Eye of the Eagle Art Center, 131 E. 1st Street, Clayton
CLASS TIME: Each Thursday from 6:15-7:15 PM

Track-Out Camps
Creation Station’s Travel the World Track-Out Art Camp
Registration is underway for Creation Station Track-Out Art Camps. Registration includes participation in the awards ceremony at the end of the week. All art supplies are included, but please provide your child with a snack and drink each day. Our camp theme is Travel the World. Campers will explore exotic locations around the world while handcrafting souvenirs from each travel destination. At the beginning of camp, passports will be issued to each camper with all the destinations for the week. At the end of each day, campers will get their passports punched for the destinations that we explored that day.
A special part of Creation Station Art Camp is creating community artwork. Each day we will work on artwork as a group to donate to our community. Campers will get to decide what type of art they will create and choose which community organization will receive their artwork. This is a special part of camp designed to develop your child’s self-esteem through the act of giving back to our community. This is a great opportunity for children to develop leadership skills and to learn to work together as a team.
This program culminates with an awards ceremony where each young artist will receive a Certificate of Achievement in Art and a gold medal. Our grand masterpiece will also finally be revealed. After the ceremony the community artwork will be donated to the local business or organization chosen by the community artists. Once their artwork is on display, children love to show their masterpiece to parents, other family members, and friends. Parents are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony to support their young artist’s contribution to our community through art.

New class added on Tuesday evening
Since Creation Station art classes on Thursday evenings only has one space left, I have added another evening to accommodate more of my students. I know several of you had prior commitments and were unable to register for Thursday classes, so hopefully you will be able to attend on Tuesdays. I think this class will fill up as quickly as the Thursday class, so please enroll as soon as possible. If you applied for a scholarship, your application will also be considered for this new class. Scholarship applications are still being accepted. If you have not applied yet, there is still time. Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone you think might be interested. The community art project gives children the chance to learn teamwork and develop leadership skills while honoring their own community.
This is also a great opportunity to boost a child’s self-esteem through the act of giving back. Clayton is such a wonderful place to grow up, and this art project gives kids the chance to say thanks to their community in their own creative way. It’s never too early to teach children to appreciate their own community. A child that is a respected and active part of their community is more likely to value their community throughout schooling and the rest of their life.

Scholarships for Fall Art Classes
I have heard from a lot of parents that they cannot afford art classes this school year with rising gas and food prices. I completely understand, and I don't want my students to miss out on art classes. Please consider applying for a scholarship for art classes. All families who would like to send their kids to art classes but can't fit it into their budget are encouraged to apply. Please email creationstation3@aol.com to get a scholarship application. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and scholarship recipients will be notified by email no later than August 21. I would encourage all families that are interested to apply. This is a great opportunity for kids who would otherwise not be able to participate in art classes. If you know of a family who might be interested, please let them know. I have several full scholarships ready to be awarded, and I don't want the scholarships to go unused! I look forward to another colorful year at Creation Station art classes!

Scholarships for Creation Station Summer Art Camps
Full scholarships are available for Creation Station Art Camps held in Clayton. Camp dates are July 21-25 from 1:30-3:30 or August 11-15 from 10:00-12:00. Scholarships will be awarded to families with financial need or other special circumstances. Individuals interested in applying must complete an application and registration form and mail to Creation Station by Monday, July 7th. The camp fee is $100/week for kids in grades K-5. Camps are held at Eye of the Eagle Art Center located at 131 East 1st Street in downtown Clayton. If you would like to request a scholarship application or if you would like to register your child without applying for a scholarship, please email creationstation3@aol.com or call 550-8135.
